Apple May Need to Issue the iOS 5.0.2 for Battery Woes

Last week, we have reported that Apple brought the iOS 5.0.1 update to fix iPhone 4S battery drain. However it seems that the iOS 5.0.1 upgrade may not fix your battery woes.
After the update, some iPhone 4S users reflect that that their iPhone battery life is worse than it was before. Some users say their battery life was fine until the upgrade. Others say it is far worse, and a few are seeing some improvement. Since one of the main features of the update was to fix battery life bugs, it’s hard to call this update anything but a failure.

Apple may reportedly release another iOS 5 update as early as next week to fix the battery issue for good and further improvements to its Siri voice-controlled assistant app are also in the works.

According to German site, MackerKopf.de, an iOS 5.0.2 update is already on its way, while work is also underway for the first major iOS 5 upgrade, which should come as version 5.1 on the market.

iOS 5.0.2 coming very soon, solving the battery bugs. Should arrive before the end of next week. Apple is working hard on the update. In addition Apple ist working on the first big iOS 5 Update (iOS 5.1), bringing some siri-extensions. Also the Siri hardware-control is in work “take a picture”, “make a video”, “switch on/off WiFi”, “switch on/off BT” and more.

Macerkopf has not been a frequent source of rumors regarding Apple’s plans, and thus the report should be taken with some skepticism, but the claims do seem to line up with Apple’s priorities of addressing continuing battery issues and increasing the functionality of the flagship feature of the new iPhone 4S.

Siri --- The Next Generation of Search Engine?

Days ago, Eric Schmidt, Chairman of the board and former CEO of Google, said that siri, released on Apple latest iPhone 4S, is a great development in search area and it will be a main competitor to Google's core search business. This is a very interesting topic. Let us read his words between the lines from a user's point of view. Is Eric Schmidt's words really mean that or not.

One of the basic principle of webpage design is "don't make users think". That is to say a nice design never makes its users think and learn how to use it. That's a kind of waste of time. From my point of view, this principle has general applicability to a certain extent, especially for users. When users get a new product, they need to know how to use it and experience the enjoyment fast. As a common user, you will not focus on how many new tech used on this new product in most cases. Instead, you want to know what can this product do, how well will it work and how about its user experience. A nice product always does a better job than its competitors on the ease of use. The reason why Apple's products are popular is not only their industrial design but also their nice user experience. The nice user experience includes incredible ease to use and smooth human-device interaction.

Take one of my own experience as an example, when I am filling some forms and I use google to search Hong Kong's post-code more than once then I need to choose one of the ten results from the first page of google search results and after I click one of the results I can finally get what I need, the Hong Kong's post-code. Let's think, if I use siri, it's much more easier than that. I just need to ask "What's the post-code of Hong Kong?" to her, I will get my answer fast and I even do not need to see it, siri will talk to me and tell me the post-code of Hong Kong. For users, they all lazy. Talking about the iPhone 4s, it is a nice smart phone from Apple. iPhone to Mac can help you to backup your iPhone 4s files on your Mac. For windows users, please use iPhone to PC transfer. No matter search engine(Google) or Siri, they are just a kind of solution, a way to meet their needs. They care about the result is accurate or not and the response is fast or slow. When both of the two ways can help users to solve their problems, as a user, they will prefer the easy, quick and better user experience one. Of course, siri and other voice search products that may be appear later have a long way to go. At least, now siri only support few languages. I think that Siri's popular proves that voice search will be the king in search area. People are lazy and they need more easier to use product. At the same time, I believe that a voice search product that can be used in multi-platform will be much more popular than siri, which can only be used on iOS platform.

Apple Brings the iOS 5.0.1 Update to Fix iPhone 4S Battery Drain

Yesterday, Apple released iOS 5.0.1, the anticipated update designed to fix multiple unspecified bugs that drained the iPhone’s battery much faster than expected.

The update also patched five security vulnerabilities, including one revealed earlier this week by noted researcher Charlie Miller, who demonstrated that Apple’s App Store code signing could be sidestepped to download malware onto an iPhone without the owner’s knowledge.

This update contains improvements and other bug fixes including:

- Fixes bugs affecting battery life

- Adds Multitasking Gestures for original iPad

- Resolves bugs with Documents in the Cloud

- Improves voice recognition for Australian users using dictation

iOS 5.0.1 was the first update that Apple delivered “over-the-air” — in other words, without requiring users to connect their devices to a Windows PC or Mac, and launching iTunes — a new feature that debuted with iOS 5 in October.

Apple did not spell out the specific battery-related patches, saying only “Fixes bugs affecting battery life” in a short list of the update’s contents.

Apple disclaims eight hours of talk time and six hours of internet use via 3G, with standby time of up to 200 hours.

One buyer claimed his iPhone 4S battery life drains at 15 percent per hour while locked and on standby. Another said battery drained 10 percent in 12 to 15 minutes after using iMessage.

To do an over-the-air update, select the “Settings” app on an iPhone, iPad or iPod Touch, then touch “General” and finally “Software Update.”

Ready for the Unlocked iPhone 4S?

Are you prepared to buy the latest iPhone 4S and “jailbreak” it? “Jailbreak” a hacking process that allows users to delink their phones from the carrier they are locked to and potentially run unauthorized programs on them.

For years, many consumers have clamored for unlocked iPhones so they wouldn’t have to sign a long-term contract for wireless service and could use the carrier of their choice. They also could take their phones overseas and, after plugging in a SIM card from a local carrier, pay local rates for calls and data, rather than having to pay exorbitant roaming charges. Finally Apple will offer the unlocked version of the iPhone 4S to U.S. consumers.

It seems that Apple is already selling them at retail stores as simply “Off Contract” devices. “Off Contract” devices are sold at full retail price and don’t lock you into a contract with AT&T. The prices for these models are $649, $749 and $849 for the 16GB, 32GB, and 64GB iPhone 4S models.
